Lawrence Sheets, 75 - March 21, 2007
Lawrence R. Sheets, 75, of Truth or Consequences, NM, and former Cozad resident, died Monday, March 12, 2007, at Lubbock, TX.
Services were held on Saturday, March 17, at the Berryman Funeral Home Chapel at Cozad with the Rev. Lyle Schoen officiating. Burial was at the Arnold Cemetery with the Rev. Dean Joy officiating at the graveside.
Sheets was born on Dec. 29, 1931, at Lenora, KS, to Claude and Etta Wilson Sheets. He grew up in Merna and attended schools in Arnold and Merna.
He worked primarily as an over-the-road truck driver, employed at various times by Weber Trucking, Willis Shaw, Curtis Refrigeration Transport and Nebraska Plastics as the exclusive private carrier contractor. He was also employed with Doug Gengenbach, Aimee Guerin, Don Soller and Joe Baca Mining.
Sheets also worked in mobile home construction and after successfully passing his real estate exam in the first attempt, he worked as a real estate broker. He later owned a tavern in Boise, ID.
He retired in 1986 to run his shop, repairing hydraulic jacks and farming a small acreage in Mitchell.
?He was preceded in death by: an infant daughter, Vonda Raye; four brothers—Claude, Jr. “Cork,” Roger “Russ,” Leonard and Loyal “Dobe”; two sisters—Esther Kruse and Georgia Bartlett; an infant sister.
?Survivors include: the mother of his children, Ruth Meyer; his wife, Norma of Norfolk; three sons—Lawrence J. “Butch” (Debbie) Sheets of Bartonville, IL, Loren Dean (Michelle) Sheets of Grand Island and Lonnie Ray (Katherine) Sheets of Pahrump, NV; a daughter, Connie Raie Morrill of Mitchell; two step-children—Michael (Carolyn) Johnson and Connie (Jim) Ingram; two brothers—Earl (Jane) Sheets of Gothenburg and Allen (Carolyn) Sheets of Cozad; a sister, Betty (Orville) Schmidt of Cozad; 21 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
