Robert Franz, 85 - July 04, 2007
Robert J. “Bob” Franz, 85, of Kearney, died Thursday, June 21, 2007, at his residence.
Services were held on Monday, June 25, at Horner-Lieske-Horner Mortuary at Kearney with the Rev. Bert Mueller officiating. Burial was at the Riverdale Cemetery with military rites at graveside.
Franz was born on Feb. 18, 1922, at Grand Island, to Jess B. and Ellen (Moll) Franz. He attended school in Grand Island and Alda.
He was united in marriage to Betty McKibben on July 28, 1943, at Grand Island. To this union, three children were born, Barry, Bill and Barb.
Franz worked as a carpet and flooring installer and owned B & B Floor Coverings until his retirement in 2004. He and his family were also former owners of the 5 B’s Antique Shop in Old Towne Kearney.
He had served his country in the Coast Guard during World War II, and was also appointed an honorary admiral in the Nebraska Navy.
Franz was a member of the Barbershoppers, a former member of the Elks and a lifetime member of the American Legion.
He was preceded in death by: a son, Barry; brother, Harold; sister, Irene; his parents, Jess and Ellen; grandparents, Theodore and Daisy Moll.
Survivors include: his wife, Betty Franz of Kearney; a son, Bill Franz of Kearney; a daughter, Barb Meyer of Riverdale; son-in-law, Larry Meyer of Riverdale; daughters-in-law, Terry Franz of Kearney and Betty Franz of Colorado Springs, CO; grandchildren—Lisa Munoz of Johnstown, CO, Angela Mach of Gothenburg, Eric Franz and Christy Franz, both of Kearney and Jeff Meyer of Riverdale; four step-grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and five step-great-grandchildren.
Memorials are suggested to the family for later designation.
