Block was born Jan. 11, 1920, at Allen, KS, to Horace and Sadie (Frost) King. She moved with her family to Nebraska in 1923 in a touring car to a farm near Chappell.
She attended grade school north of Chappell until the third grade. The family then moved to the Goodview community where she entered the school, and graduated as valedictorian of her Goodview class in 1937.
Block worked with the Agriculture and Soil Conservation office in Sidney until she married Ed Block on April 20, 1941, at the home of her sister, Lila Hobson. She then worked at the First State Bank in Lodgepole until the birth of her first child in 1944.
She and her husband lived north of Lodgepole until they moved to the Sunnyside community where they lived and farmed until moving to Lodgepole in 1960. She then moved in 2004 to the Memorial Health Center, Extended Care in Sidney where she lived until her death.
Block was active in the Sunnyside community. She and her husband were organizers of the Sunnyside Community Club and both held offices in that organization. She was also active in the Sunshine Club, the Extension Club, was a 4-H leader and was active in the Lodgepole Library, serving as president for several years.
She was a 75-year member of the Lodgepole United Methodist Church and was an active member of the United Methodist Women, serving as president, secretary and treasurer.
Block was a great cook, according to family members, and an avid reader. She enjoyed crafts, playing the piano and working crossword puzzles. Her pride and joy were her grandson and great-grandsons.
She was preceded in death by: her parents, Horace and Sadie King; her husband, Ed; a daughter, Jolene; two sisters—Lila Hobson and Wanda Heath; a brother, Maurice King.
