Lucile Peterson, 95 - September 12, 2007
Lucile Thompson Peterson, 95, of Loveland, CO, died August 26, 2007 in Loveland. The celebration of Lucile’s life will take place as she requested on the north coast of Oregon, followed by the spreading of her ashes on the water on Saturday, August 23, 2008. Those wishing to participate are welcome to attend, and/or send notes to firstname.lastname@example.org, or to In Memory of Lucile, c/o Grant or Mary, 60445 Billadeau Rd., Bend, OR 97702.
Lucile was born February 15, 1912, in Gothenburg to Dr. Dwight Thompson, one of Gothenburg’s early dentists, and Rose Thompson. They had two other children, Burton and Gerald, both deceased.
Lucile graduated from Gothenburg High and went on to attend Nebraska Wesleyan University, where she majored in music.
She had a deep love for and a gift to play and teach classical and jazz keyboard music. A few years after she attended Wesleyan, she returned to Gothenburg and began teaching piano and organ. She taught beginning and advanced lessons for more than 30 years to school age and adult students from Gothenburg, Cozad, and other communities in Dawson, Lincoln, and Custer counties. In addition, she often volunteered to play for area church services and local school programs, and also played for the weddings of many of her students and others.
Lucile was beloved by a great many of her students for her rare talent to not only teach the techniques of keyboard music but also to give her students a love of the music that for many would last a lifetime. A significant number of her students also received nationally-recognized awards and other recognition for their musical accomplishments that came largely from her patient, professional teaching.
Lucile is survived by her two sons Grant of Bend, OR, and Brian of Loveland, CO, and their families, and the sons and daughters of her brother Gerald, many of whom live in the North Platte area.
