Milton Schulz, 80 - January 09, 2008
Milton L. (Butch) Schulz, 80, of Gothenburg, died Monday, Jan. 7, 2008, at his home in Gothenburg.
Services will be held on Friday, Jan. 11, at 1 p.m. at the American Lutheran Church of Gothenburg with the Rev. Matt Groenke and Lonna Grabenstien, PMA, officiating. Burial will take place at Fort McPherson National Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Thursday, Jan. 10, from 1-8 p.m. with family present from 6-8 p.m. at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel at Gothenburg.
Schulz was born on May 22, 1927, in Seward County near Garland to Adolph R. and Elsie Margaret (Ficken) Schulz.
His early education was held at a parochial Lutheran school in Seward County. He also lived in Farnam from 1942-1944, and graduated from Gothenburg High School in 1945.
Following graduation, he served his country in World War II from Aug. 29, 1945, to Nov. 17, 1946, where he achieved the rank of technician fifth grade in the Army Regiment 1802SP.
Schulz married Jewel M. Roe on Feb. 24, 1949, at the Lutheran parsonage in Gothenburg. To this union, three daughters and a son were born.
He worked as an alfalfa mill operator and as a transport driver for Farmland Service Coop in Gothenburg.
?Schulz enjoyed playing golf and farming with his sons-in-law, according to family members.
?He was preceded in death by: his parents, Adolph and Elsie; two brothers—Norbert and Virgil Schulz; brothers-in-law—Lewis Wolf and Lavern Roe; sister-in-law, Ruth Morris.
Survivors include: his wife, Jewel; three daughters—Sharon (Bob) Auld of Geneva, Laurie (Jeff) Clark of Brady and Jan (Archie) Rickertsen of Gothenburg; a son, Ken (Heidi) Schulz of Anchorage, KY; three sisters—Vera Wolf, Merna (Milford) Bratten and Elaine (John) Brown; 14 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.
Memorials are suggested to the American Lutheran Church and Central Plains Hospice.
