Lyle Brunkhorst, 78 - June 18, 2008
An inurnment will be held July 3 at 11 a.m. at Ft. McPherson National Cemetery near Maxwell. There will be no visitation.
Brunkhorst was born on Aug. 18, 1929, at Sharon Springs, KS, to August and Lona May (Chaney) Brunkhorst. He attended school at Palisade.
He was united in marriage to Verna Aunspaugh on Oct. 12, 1949, at McCook.
Brunkhorst entered the U.S. Navy in 1948 and continued with the Navy until 1965. He then became a member of the Reserve until completely retiring in 1974.
He resided at Gothenburg from 1965 until moving to Mitchell in 1997.
Brunkhorst was employed with Speedway Transportation for many years hauling livestock.
He was a member of the American Legion in Mitchell, and enjoyed woodworking and gardening, according to family members.
?Brunkhorst was preceded in death by his parents, August and Lona.
?Survivors include: his wife, Verna; sons—Mike Brunkhorst, Mark (Paula) Brunkhorst and Dave Brunkhorst, all of Mitchell; grandchildren—Wayne (Amanda) Brunkhorst of Grand Island, Desiree (Scott) McPherson of Gothenburg, Nicholas, Casey and Danielle Brunkhorst, all of Mitchell; great-grandchildren—Nijul, Jobidiah and Ian Brunkhorst, all of Grand Island; brothers—Melvin Brunkhorst of Grand Island and Herb Brunkhorst of Yakima, WA; numerous nieces and nephews.
