Harold Johnson, 96 - July 23, 2008
Harold W. Johnson, 96, of Lexington, former long-time Cozad resident, died Sunday, July 20, 2008, at Tri-County Area Hospital in Lexington.
A visitation was held from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Wednesday at the Berryman Funeral Home in Cozad.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, July 24, at the Church of Christ on Newell in Cozad with Mike Dennis officiating. Burial will take place at the Fairview Cemetery south of Cozad with military honors.
Johnson was born Aug. 30, 1911, at Eustis, to John and Anna Johnson. He graduated from Cozad High School in 1930.
In 1942, he entered the U.S. Air Force where he served during World War II. He completed his basic training in Hawaii before leaving for Guam with the 11th Bomber Squadron.
Following his discharge in 1945, he resided east of Cozad where he farmed until his retirement in the late 1970’s. He had moved to Lexington where he lived the past few years.
?Johnson was a lifetime member of the Church of Christ in Cozad where he served as a deacon.
?He enjoyed his livestock, coyote hunting, and working on the buildings and grounds at the church, according to family members.
?Johnson was preceded in death by: five sisters—Dorothy Delap, Edith Kinnan, Ruth Brown, Esther Velte and Florence Stear.
Survivors include: two brothers—Paul (Leona) Johnson of Gothenburg and John Johnson of Lexington; numerous nieces and nephews.
