Bryce DeBoer, 83 - July 23, 2008
Bryce Delmer DeBoer, 83, died Monday July 14, 2008, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.
Services were held at the American Lutheran Church of Cozad on Saturday, July 19, with the Rev. Roger Daum and J.C. Calhoun officiating. Interment was held at the Elwood Cemetery.
DeBoer was the first son born to George and Effie Dyer DeBoer, on Dec. 22, 1924, at Johnson Lake. He was named after a hero in the book, “Valley of the Giants.” He shared many of the same characteristics as his namesake including height and color of hair, and also shared a love for the land, according to family members.
He graduated from Elwood High School, and on Jan. 15, 1944, married Vivian Brown, at Oberlin, KS.
Following an honorary discharge from the Air Transport Command U.S. Army Air Corp., he began farming and ranching north of Cozad. During this time, he supported the American Agriculture movement and drove his 1952 Farmall tractor to Washington, D.C. in the late 1970’s.
DeBoer was a member of the Berean Fundamental Church and was an elder on the board. He also served as a Gideon.
During his lifetime, he made many friends and helped many people, and was admired and respected by everyone he met, said family members.
Among those preceding him in death are: a brother, Leon DeBoer; brothers-in-law—Fred Gengenbach and Eldon Heller.
?Survivors include: his wife, Vivian DeBoer of Cozad; a daughter, Patti (Greg) Andries of Colorado Springs, CO; a son, David (Carol) DeBoer of Cozad; seven brothers and sisters—Ilene Gengenbach of Cozad, George (Beverly) DeBoer of Omaha, Colleene Heller of Camas, WA, Stan (Bonnie) DeBoer of Bertrand, Craig (Nancy) DeBoer of Wichita, KS, Valerie (Bill) Geiger of Cozad, and Byron (Jolene) DeBoer of Bertrand; sister-in-law, Betty DeBoer of Cozad; five grandchildren—Warren Andries of Aspen, CO, Devra DeBoer of Bertrand, Bret (Tracy) Andries of Silverthorne, CO, Shane (Stacie) DeBoer of Victoria, KS, and Janae (Chris) Bebb of Falcon, CO; eight great-grandchildren.
