Donna Slack, 76 - October 22, 2008
Donna Slack, 76, of Gothenburg died at her home Oct. 19, 2008, surrounded by her family.
Register book will be available to sign Wednesday, Oct. 22, from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. with the family present from 6-8 p.m. at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel.
Memorial services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 23, at the United Methodist Church with the Rev. Randy Dilts officiating.
Burial will take place in the Gothenburg Cemetery.
Donna (Shelley) Slack was born May 6, 1932, to James David and Allie Mae (Alkire) Shelley in Gothenburg. She attended Gothenburg Public Schools and lived her whole life in Gothenburg.
She worked for Nebraska Salt and Grain as safety director for over 25 years. She retired in 2005.
Slack had a full life with many hobbies and interests, family members said. She and Denny Horst loved to camp, travel and ride their Harley motorcycle. She did ceramics and all kinds of crafts. She loved her family and they have many beautiful memories of family dinners and barbecues on the patio, the family said.
She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and six sisters.
Slack is survived by: her partner, Dennis Horst; her four children—Kristi (Dutch) Edson of Gothenburg, Kathy (Mark) Stencel of Mullen, Karen (Mark) Meyer of New Salem, ND, Kim (Marcy) Slack of Gothenburg; a brother, Russell (Cleo) Shelley of Laramie, WY; a sister, Opal (Floyd) Cummings of Greeley, CO; extended family Clay (Joni) Horst of Loveland, CO, Clint (Heather) Horst of Hickman, Jeff Horst of Sidney, Ben (Jessica) Horst of Ogden, IA, and Brandon (Amy) Horst of Chadron; nine grandchildren—Tina Goodenberger of Kearney, Jennifer (Shane) Belgum of North Platte, Torrey (Jill) Smith of Lincoln, Taun (Aengle) Smith of Laramie, WY, Julie Speck of Gothenburg, Shelley (Phil) Bader and Bridget (Travis) Wetch of New Salem, Karissa Slack of Lincoln and Korbin Slack of Lincoln; 10 great-grandchildren. She and Denny also shared six grandchildren from Denny’s five sons.
Memorials are suggested to Central Plains Home Health and Hospice or the Gothenburg Senior Center.
