Kay Hendren, 71 - October 29, 2008
Kay (Mann) Hendren, 71, of McLean, VA, formerly of Gothenburg, died Friday, Oct. 24, 2008, at the Virginia Medical Center in Arlington.
A visitation will be held Wednesday from 1-8 p.m. with family present from 6-8 p.m. at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel of Gothenburg.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 30, at the First United Methodist Church of Gothenburg with the Rev. Randy Dilts Officiating. Burial will take place at the Gothenburg Cemetery.
Hendren was born on March 13, 1937, at Gothenburg to Milton and Vivian (Ostergard) Mann. She grew up in Gothenburg and graduated from Gothenburg High School.
She was united in marriage to Ed Hendren on Dec. 7, 1957, at Smith Center, KS, they later divorced.
Hendren graduated from Central Connecticut State University (formerly known as Connecticut State Teacher’s College) with a bachelor of arts in education.
She worked as a field representative/administrative law judge with the National Labor Relations Board of San Francisco, CA.
Hendren had lived in the following places: Gothenburg, Hastings, 1956-58; Hartford, Ct, 1959-62; Arlington, VA, 1962; Ft. Benning, GA, 1962-63; Honolulu, HI, 1963-64; Arlington, 1964-65; Freiburg, Germany, 1965-67; Arlington, 1967-69; West Point, NY, 1969-73; Palo Alto, CA, 1973-83; Menlo Park, CA,1984-2006; San Diego, CA, 2006-2007; McLean, VA, 2007-2008.
She was a member of the Peninsula Bible Church of Redwood City, CA, where she served as a board member.
?Hendren was preceded in death by: her parents, Milton and Vivian Mann; two brothers-in-law—Willard S. Folsom and Danny Nichols.
?Survivors include: her sons—Matthew Behrens (partner, Michael) of Napa, CA, David (Larissa) Hendren of San Diego, and John (Karen) Hendren of Arlington; sisters—Connie (Bruce) Johnson of Spearfish, SD, and Roxie Folsom of Foster City, CA; a brother, Terry (Billie) Mann of Gothenburg; six grandchildren—Jessica and Nicholas Behrens of Napa, Isaac and Noah Hendren of San Diego, and Calvin and Spencer Hendren of Arlington; nephews and nieces—Torey (Dave) Dudley of Hickman, Patrick (Sheryl) Nichols of Earlham, IA, Laura (Mike) Dierks of Papillion, Willard Folsom of Foster City, Terri (Brad) Morrow of Omaha, Heath (Margaret) Mann of Pocatello, ID, Brandon (Andi) Mann of Wahoo, Shelly Herrod, currently serving in Afghanistan, Mike (Brenda) Herrod of Norfolk, Brent (Mary) Johnson of San Francisco, CA, and Jeana Johnson of Primera, TX.
