June Hecox, 93 - March 18, 2009
June Belle Hecox, 93, of Gothenburg, died Wednesday, March 11, 2009, at Gothenburg Memorial Hospital Long-term Care.
Services were held at Banner United Methodist Church on Saturday, March 14, with the Rev. Janie Freeman officiating. Interment took place at the Peckham Cemetery.
Hecox was born June 24, 1915, south of Gothenburg, the daughter of Ernest and Ramona (Brestel) Haynes.
She attended and graduated from Gothenburg High School in 1933. Following graduation, she attended business school and then taught at a country school for a few years.
On June 8, 1939, she married Eugene Hecox at the Banner United Methodist Church south of Gothenburg. To this union, twin boys were born.
Hecox was a member of Banner United Methodist Church, and for a short time, Order of Eastern Star.
She had played the organ at the Banner United Methodist Church of over 60 years. She always enjoyed playing music and gave piano lessons to the children of the church, according to family members.
Hecox was preceded in death by: her parents, Ernest and Ramona; her husband, Eugene William Hecox; two brothers—Milan and Stanley Haynes; a sister, Marilyn Pagel.
?Survivors include her sons—Jerry (Bev) Hecox of Beatrice, and Jack (Nora) Hecox of Dorchester; a sister, Lois Lemmon of Cozad; sister-in-law, Vivian Haynes of Gothenburg; two grandsons—Dan (Tammy) Hecox of York, and Scott (Sarah) Hecox of Omaha; a granddaughter, Angela Hecox of Beatrice; two step-granddaughters—Kim (Steve) Fugett of Diller, and Sandy (Jim) Weiner of Bend, OR; and several great-grandchildren.
