Karen Hurst, 61 - April 06, 2014Karen Preston Hurst, 61, of Gothenburg passed away Sunday, April 6, 2014, at her home in Gothenburg.
Services will be conducted at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 1407 West 13th St., in Lexington on Thursday, April 10, at 1 p.m. with Bishop Steven Horton officiating. Burial will be at the Gothenburg Cemetery.
A visitation will take place at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel in Gothenburg on Wednesday, April 9, from 2 to 8 p.m. with family members present from 5 to 7 p.m., and from 11 a.m. until the time of the service at the church on Thursday.
Hurst was born April 4, 1953, at Prairie City, OR, daughter of Mervin and Rae (Saunders) Preston.
She grew up in Idaho and Utah, graduating from Declo High School at Declo, ID.
On March 26, 1976, she married Theron R. Hurst.
Hurst was known as a loving wife, mother and grandmother who took special interest in her children and making the house a home, according to family members.
She is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
Hurst was preceded in death by: her mother, Rae Preston; father-in-law, Leo Windfield Hurst.
Survivors include: her husband, Theron Hurst of Gothenburg; her son, Jared (Heather) Hurst; her daughter, Rebecca (Joseph) Welker; eight grandchildren—Rachel Hurst, Matthew Welker, Joshua Welker, Nathan Hurst, Logan Welker, Jenna Hurst, Lilly Anna Welker and Kelsey Hurst; her father, Mervin Preston; four sisters—Linda (Ken) Miller, Diane (Dale) Carter, Nyla (Jerry) Kent and Vicki (Scott) Christensen; two foster-daughters—Rachel Welker and Kendra (Will) Mercer; numerous extended family members.
Memorials are suggested to the Gothenburg Memorial Hospital Foundation.
