Thomas Mein, 66 - January 23, 2014Thomas Paul “Tom” Mein, 66, of Liberal, KS, and Brady died Thursday, Jan. 23, 2014, at Liberal Good Samaritan Center.
Funeral Mass will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 1, at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Liberal with the Rev. James Dieker presiding.
Vigil and Rosary service will be at 6 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 31, at the Brenneman Funeral Home of Liberal.
A visitation will take place from 4 to 8 p.m. on Friday at Brenneman Funeral Home with family members present from 7 to 8 p.m.
Mein was born April 18, 1947, at Ida Grove, IA, the son of Robert J. and Edith (Sears) Mein. He was a 1965 graduate of Ida Grove High School.
He served with the U. S. Navy from 1965 to 1969, and attended Wayne State College in Wayne where he met his wife, Gwen Struthers.
On April 18, 1970, the couple married at St. Boniface Catholic Church in Sioux City, IA. They were married 40 years before she preceded him in death on Aug. 7, 2010.
Mein and his wife moved frequently due to career progression, making homes at Early, IA, Crete, Wall Lake, IA, Lincoln, Ralston, Elkhorn, Stockton, MO, and Galion, OH, until moving to Liberal for 17 years before retiring to Lake Jeffrey at Brady in 2006.
He was a successful businessman and was a sales executive with several agriculture companies. He became a financial advisor in 1986, and at the time of his retirement in 2006, he was vice-president of investments with A.G. Edwards & Sons.
Mein was a former member of the Liberal Country Club and Rotary Club.
He loved surrounding himself with his family and friends while fishing, golfing, hunting or just having fun, according to family members.
He was preceded in death by: his wife, Gwen; his parents, Robert and Edith.
Survivors include: his son, Casey (Nadine) Mein of Liberal; his daughters—Amy (Rod) Kutemeier of DeLand, FL, and Andrea (Matt) Pritchard of Bellevue, WA; three brothers—Bob (Cammy) Mein of Storm Lake, IA, Andy (Carrie) Mein of Kerrville, TX, and Joe (Karen) Mein of Coeur d’Alene, ID; two sisters—Judy Chacon of Phoenix, AZ, and Joan Mein-Hall of Clear Lake, IA;
six grandchildren—CoreyAnne Mein, Valarie Kutemeier, Sarah Mein, Sabrina Kutemeier, Andrew Pritchard and Thomas Ryan Mein.
Memorials are suggested to the Mein Scholarship Fund in care of Brenneman Funeral Home, 1212 W. 2nd St., Liberal, KS 67901.
