Juleen Farnstrom, 87 - January 03, 2014Juleen Elizabeth (Hicken) Farnstrom, 87, of Hebron, originally of Gothenburg, passed away Friday, Jan. 3, 2014, at Blue Valley Lutheran Nursing Home at Hebron.
Services will take place at Grace Lutheran Church in Hebron on Tuesday Jan. 7, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Keith Brozek officiating. Burial will be conducted on Wednesday Jan. 8, at 11 a.m. at Fort McPherson Cemetery near Maxwell.
A visitation will be Monday, Jan. 6, from 1 to 7 p.m. at the Hebron Memorial Funeral Home.
Farnstrom was born Sept. 3, 1926, to William and Violet (Aden) Hicken at Gothenburg. She was baptized Sept. 24, 1926, by F. Wiebke and confirmed on March 29, 1942, by E. Ihrig. at the rural Lutheran Church of Gothenburg.
She attended school in Gothenburg, graduating from Gothenburg High School with the Class of 1944.
After graduating, she was employed at Sterling, CO, working with the handicapped, and at Waverly, IA, working at a children’s home.
She was married to Lloyd Farnstrom on Sept. 7, 1947, at the Lutheran Church north of Gothenburg. To this union, four children were born.
Farnstrom and her husband moved to Hebron where she worked at Blue Valley Lutheran Home as bookkeeper for 32 years, retiring in 1992.
She was an active member of Grace Lutheran Church of Hebron, helping with the church circle group and making quilts.
Her special times were spending time with her family, especially the grandchildren attending sporting events and school programs, according to family. She also enjoyed playing cards and sitting outside with her husband just enjoying each others company.
Farnstrom was preceded in death by: her parents, William and Violet; her step-mother, Erma Hicken; brother and wife, Melvin (Mary) Hicken.
Survivors include: her husband, Lloyd of Hebron; her son, David (Janelle) of Hebron; three daughters—Kathy (Les) Reinke and Ronda (Chris) Frye, all of Hebron, and Susan (Dave) Sell of Humphrey; grandchildren—Nicki (Jeff) McGuire of Wentzville, MO, Cory (Jamie) Reinke of Cortland, Jim (Tori) Hergott of Belvidere, Chris (Staci) Hergott, Derek (Christy) Farnstrom, Lathan (Stacey) McLaughlin and Hayden Farnstrom, all of Hebron, Colby (Robbin) Hergott of Bruning, Leslie Schreiner of Omaha, Brandon McKenzie of Lincoln, Ali Sell of Columbus, Payton Sell of Humphrey, Brandon (Lacey) McLaughlin of Central City, and Austin (Courtney) Farnstrom of Kearney; great-grandchildren—Emma and Aden McGuire, Annaleigh Reinke, Takaylynn and Tegon Hergott, Brooklyn, Keith, Cassie and Brighton Hergott, Alexis Hergott, Pe’li McKenzie, Riley, Abbie, Josie and Max Schreiner, Riley Farnstrom, Brenner, Carson and Owen McLaughlin, Cash and Hadley McLaughlin, and Cooper Farnstrom; a brother, Garry (Evonne) Hicken of Gothenburg; two sisters—Karan (Jim) Smith of Gothenburg and Kristy (Denny) Henn of Lincoln; numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorials are suggested in care of the family.
