Roy Fisher, 89 - August 21, 2013Roy Burton Fisher, 89, of Curtis died Wednesday, Aug. 21, 2013, at Cozad.
Services took place at the First United Methodist Church on Sunday, Aug. 25, with the Rev. Bonnie Forney officiating. Interment was at the Moorefield Cemetery.
Fisher was born Dec. 10, 1923, at Moorefield, the son of Burton and Leafy L.(Clark) Fisher. He grew up in the Moorefield area and graduated from Moorefield High School.
He served his country with the U.S. Navy as a Seabee from 1944 to 1946, stationed at Guam.
On June 8, 1947, he married Katherine L. Andersen at the Andersen homestead. To this union three children were born. The couple resided in the Moorefield area most of their marriage, until they retired and moved to Curtis.
Fisher was a life-long farmer and rancher, farming and ranching east and northeast of Moorefield.
He was a past member of the Nebraska Farm Bureau, the Moorefield Elevator Board and both Moorefield and Medicine Valley School Boards. He also served as chairman of the Moorefield Cemetery Board.
Fisher was preceded in death by: his wife, Katherine L. Fisher; father, Burton Fisher; mother, Leafy L. Fisher; a brother, Loren Fisher; sister, Arlene Yeutter; son-in-law, Ralph Shuler.
Survivors include: his daughter, Carol Jean McKennon of Curtis; two sons—Marvin R. Fisher and Darrell (Linda) Fisher, all of Moorefield; two grandsons—Steven Fisher and Kevin Fisher, both of Farnam; two granddaughters—Christine (Bryan) Eicher of Commerce City, CO, and Marie Fisher of Kearney; numerous extended family members.
Memorials are suggested to the Moorefield Cemetery and the Curtis Senior Center.
