Meester was born July 7, 1948, at Gothenburg, to Harvey “Gene” and Evelyn (Maret) Walter, and attended Cozad Public Schools.
On March 21, 1964, she was united in marriage to Larry L. Meester. In 1965, the couple moved to Cozad, where they raised their three children.
For over 30 years, she made cakes for special occasions like graduations, weddings, etc. She also worked as a med aide at Parkview Villa in Gothenburg for many years.
Meester loved to cook, and when family came for a visit, one could usually find her in the kitchen, making nearly everything from scratch with many elements of her dishes coming from her garden, according to family members. She always made sure that everyone was well fed.
Her creativity was not exclusive to the kitchen as she was also an excellent crafter from sewing to making decorative cabinetry out of barn wood, the family said. She was always coming up with creative ways to use things that might have otherwise gone to waste.
Meester was also a helper, and perpetually put others needs in front of her own, family members said. She took pride in being a bargain hunter and had shopping down to a science.
Just like any proud grandmother, she cherished the time she spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, the family said. She loved playing cards and Scrabble along with watching car and horse races as well.
She was preceded in death by: her husband, Larry in 2006; her parents, Gene and Evelyn; a special mother-in-law, Hannah Meester; two brothers-in-law—Terry and Ron; sister-in-law, Betty.
