Paul Johnson, 97 - August 09, 2013

Paul Edward Johnson, 97, of Gothenburg died Friday, Aug. 9, 2013, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.
A visitation will be at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel of Gothenburg on Tuesday, Aug. 13, from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. with family present from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Services will be conducted at Blase-Strauser Memorial Chapel on Wednesday, Aug. 14, at 10:30 a.m. with the Rev. Larry Viter officiating. Interment will take place at the Gothenburg Cemetery.
Johnson was born March 12, 1916, at Eustis, son of John and Anna Johnson. He grew up in the Cozad area and graduated from Cozad High School.
He was married to Helen Velte, and the couple had two children. On March 12, 1948, he was united in marriage to Tillie E. Stevens. To this union, two children were born.
Johnson farmed southwest of Cozad and then moved to a farm northeast of Gothenburg.
He had a love for the land and a special place in his heart for horses, according to family members. He also enjoyed Golden Gloves boxing and Micro Midget racing.
Johnson was preceded in death by: his wife, Tillie Emily Johnson; his parents, John and Anna Johnson; five sisters—Dorothy (Leslie) Delap, Ester (Lawrence) Velte, Florence Stear, Edith (Ward) Kinnan and Ruth (Vern) Brown; a brother, Harold Johnson; sister-in-law, Lola Johnson.
Survivors include: his two son—Steve (Jo) Johnson of Gothenburg and Kenneth Lee (Carol) Spilker of Clifton, NJ; his two daughters—Beth (Curt) Bowman of Tucson, AZ, and Bette (Dr. Robert) Patton of Kingsport, TN; four granddaughters—Kimberly Johnson, Linda (Bruce) Williams, Christina (Mike) Makoska and Kara (Scott) Zinke; three grandsons—Doran Johnson, William (Deborah) Patton and David Patton; six great-grandchildren—Elizabeth, Charles, Rudd, Dylan, Leah and Brayden; a brother John Johnson of Lexington; special caregiver, Rebecca Meredith; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members.
Memorials are suggested to the Gothenburg Volunteer Fire Department, 602 10th St., Gothenburg, NE 69138, and the Nebraska Children’s Home.
