Frances (Fran) Leighty, 94 - May 09, 2013Frances “Fran” Larson Leighty, 94, of Milford, PA, originally of Gothenburg, died Thursday, May 9, 2013, at the Belle Reve Senior Living Community.
A memorial service will be conducted on July 20 at 11 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church at Milford.
Leighty was born Nov. 20, 1918, at Gothenburg, the seventh of 10 children of Louisa and Walfred Larson.
Following high school, she moved to Oak Park, IL, to attend secretarial school and reside with four of her sisters.
While at Oak Park, she met and married Fred Leighty, an advertising executive, in 1941.
After the war, the couple moved to Lombard, IL, settling shortly thereafter at Larchmont, NY.
She was active with the Larchmont Avenue Presbyterian Church and the local hospital women’s auxiliary. She also kept busy with creative sewing and knitting projects for many years, according to family members.
After her husband’s retirement, they moved to Milford, PA, and later to Deland, FL.
Following the death of her husband, she moved back to Milford, where she has lived for 16 years, enjoying her church, friends and grandchildren, the family said. She always loved to watch the Kentucky Derby, enjoyed bridge and canasta and entertaining friends and family at her home.
Leighty was preceded in death by her husband, Fred.
Survivors include: her three children—John (Joyce), Joan (Don) and Jim (Susan); 11 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren; sisters—Minerva Diener and Marilyn (Elmo) Hill.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the memorial fund at the First Presbyterian Church of Milford and the American Cancer Society.
