Country/rock band featured at 124th Dawson County Fair
A full schedule of activities with old favorites and a number of new features are set for the 124th annual Dawson County Fair.
The 2010 fair, with the theme “A Timeless Tradition,” is planned for July 14-18.
With setup beginning on Tuesday, July 13, at 8 a.m. over 50 indoor and outdoor vendors will be setting up their booths and outdoor exhibits. Open class entries can be brought to the Open Class building between 6 and 9 p.m.
On Wednesday, July 14, the excitement begins at 5 p.m. in the grandstands with drill team, flag corps and new this year, a cheerleading competition. The Open Class, Commercial and FFA barn will be open from 6-9 p.m.
Wednesday night will again be Family Night at the carnival. Purchase an armband and ride unlimited rides from 6-11 p.m. Back again this year is the cattle sorting, which will be held in the Steven’s Arena at 7:30.
The car impacts will be intended Thursday, July 15, during the “Crashfest” Demo Derby beginning at 7:30 p.m. at the grandstands. Again this year there will be four-cylinder and full-size classes.
Cross Canadian Ragweed is the featured entertainment this year with a concert on Friday, July 16. It’s a country/rock band that will hit the stage just after Jonathan Singleton, an up-and-coming country artist. The show begins at 7 p.m. with the gate opening up at 6 p.m. at the grandstands. Tickets will be $25 in advance and $30 at the gate.
New this year on Saturday, July 17, is “Kids Day.” The afternoon will be focused on children. Beginning at 2, McClain’s Mutton Busters and Kids Ranch Rodeo are planned. Not only will there be mutton bustin’ but a cow milking contest, pigmy goat tie, a diaper race and much more are scheduled.
The Lexington Volunteer Fire Department will present a safety trailer, which gives information on tornados and kitchen fires.
The Nebraska Truck and Tractor Pullers will finish off the evening with the thrills and excitement of truck and tractor pulling at the grandstand.
The last day of the 2010 Dawson County Fair will be on Sunday, July 18, with stock cars racing around the track beginning at 6:30 p.m.
