Eagle athletes perform well at Elwood Invite
Brady athletes posted some good individual performances Friday at the Elwood Invitational.
The boys placed in 11 events and finished fourth as a team with 57 points. Elm Creek earned the team championship with 120 points.
The Eagle girls competed with limited numbers. Shaylin McClellin was out due to illness. Brady tied for sixth with Arapahoe, each scoring 35 points. Bertrand dominated the meet with 154.
“We had some good showings on the boys side,” Eagle coach Rich Britten said.
Eric Roe was the big scorer for the Eagle boys. He placed first in both the 110-meter high hurdles (:16.3) and the 300-meter intermediates (:42.5).
Trevor Mann was the only other individual winner, taking the gold medal in the triple jump with a best performance 40-10.
Britten praised his 4x400 relay that normally includes Roe. “We pieced together some other kids and they ran a very good time and placed third, just a step out of second,” the coach said.
Members of the foursome were Jon Taullie, Trevor Mann, Cody Most and Chase Viter.
The Eagle 4x100 foursome was flying around the track but the baton was dropped after the last exchange and the group was disqualified.
“We might have won that,” Britten said. “We’d have had a very good time.”
Valerie Most carried the scoring weight for the Brady girls
Most earned gold medals in the 100-meter intermediate hurdles (:16.1) and the high jump (5-2). She also placed fourth in the pole vault with a top effort of 9-0.
Michaela Jurgens, a freshman, placed third in the 400 with a time of 64.1 seconds.
