Swedes runner up at own play invite
Brett Mann noted as outstanding lead actor
The Swedes took runner-up honors at the Gothenburg Play Invitational Nov. 19 for “The Play Called Noah’s Flood.”
Brett Mann was named outstanding lead actor for his performance in the one-act.
Loup City was the winner of the Bracket A division followed by Gothenburg, Brady, Adams Central, Gibbon and Hershey.
Director Lori Long said she was pleased with how the cast performed and how they worked as a team, not just during the play, but throughout the day as they helped keep the invitational running by working in the concession stand, helping other schools load and unload sets and guarding the doors during other performances.
At the Loup City Invitational on Nov. 8, Long said the Swedes were nearly two minutes over time (plays must be 30 minutes or less) and were only 44 seconds over time at their own invitational.
“That drops us one ranking from each judge,” she said.
In Bracket B, Wauneta-Palisade used a tie-breaker to beat York for top honors.
The tie was broken with the number of outstanding medalists.
York was followed by Eustis-Farnam, Ravenna, Lexington and McCook.
Long said 450 additional students literally doubled the population of GHS for a day as classes continued as normal through the school.
“We very much appreciate our administration, teachers, and custodial staff who accommodated this event,” she said.
The next competition for the Swedes was Southwest Conference in Broken Monday.
Results were not available by press time.
The public can see the one act Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. in the Gothenburg High School performing arts center.
A dessert bar will be offered following the performance and a free-will donation will be taken.
