Lack of baserunners dooms Melon Juniors
The Melons lost their only game of the week last Tuesday when they were defeated by Cambridge, 15-4.
Gothenburg struggled to get runners on base throughout the game but did score in the second and seventh innings.
The Juniors had a week off and look to bounce back against Overton on Wednesday (today).
Cambridge took the lead in the third inning when a throwing error allowed a runner to score.
Two more runs were scored on a hit to right field and on a grounder to the Gothenburg second baseman.
The Melons responded with two runs of their own in the bottom of the third.
Bryce Kowalewski started the inning with a walk, followed by an infield single by Marcus Fritton.

Over the next three innings, the Melons only had one hit that was followed by a double-play and a pop-out.
A run-filled top of the fifth extended Cambridge’s lead to 14-2. Six of eight Cambridge batters reached base, and put the game out of reach for the Melons.
Gothenburg’s Kowalewski led off the seventh with a single to left field, but was forced out at second on a Braedan Brundage grounder.
