Five Swedes earn all-conference honors
Five Gothenburg basketball players have earned 2013 post-season honors from coaches of the seven Southwest Conference schools.
All-conference selections were made during a meeting of winter coaches last week.
Valentine earned the most honorees overall with four boys and three girls receiving recognition. Ainsworth and Minden had six each.
For the Swedes, senior Logan Koehler earned a spot on the boys first team.
Koehler led the team in nearly every statistical category, scoring 334 points, pulling down 213 rebounds and dishing out 106 assists.
Fellow big man, Tanner Borchardt, was named to the all-conference second team.
The sophomore was close behind Koehler in scoring with 309 points and even closer in rebounds with 212. He also managed 52 blocked shots.
On the girls side, senior guard Brittyn Munster was named to the all-conference first team.
Munster was second on the team in scoring with 262 points. She also had a team-high 48 steals and led the Swedes in free throw percentage making 73%.
Junior Regan Geiken earned second team all-SWC honors.
Geiken was Gothenburg’s leading scorer this season with 288 points. She also led the way in rebounding with 121 and had 19 blocked shots.
Senior Jacey Wiggins rounded out the Swede honorees on the girls third team.
Wiggins scored 206 points and had a team-high 39 assists.
Both the Gothenburg boys and girls teams ended their seasons in the district final game. The boys were 9-14 on the year while the girls were 15-11.
