A blood drive in Brady in honor of recent auto accident victim Terry Grasz and his family far surpassed its collection goal.

The American Red Cross received 45 units of blood during Friday’s event, 15 units over the goal.

Grasz has always been a faithful donor, said organizer Marilyn Bratten, having given his 31st unit during the last blood drive.

Grasz was critically injured in an automobile accident on Oct. 25 that claimed the life of his wife, Elaine, and two Brady students, Connor and Colten Gentry.

Grasz remains hospitalized in the Saint Elizabeth Regional Burn and Wound Care Center in Lincoln.

Bratten said the 45 units donated were the largest collection ever in Brady and included 10 high school students who were first-time donors.

The next Brady blood drive will be Monday, Jan. 14.
