Early voting on a roll in Dawson Co.
Since early voting began on Oct. 1, the Dawson County election office has already given out 912 early-voting ballots.
There are about 13,352 registered voters in the county.
That number is part of a trend with other counties across Nebraska which Secretary of State John Gale attributes to a probable high turnout for the Nov. 6 election.
“While convenience is a factor, early voting shows people have been paying attention and are ready to vote,” Gale said.
New Dawson County election commissioner Rosie Casanoba has other reasons.
She said early voters have expressed concerns about the weather on Nov. 6 or said they plan to be out of the county on Election Day.
Casanoba replaced election commissioner Sheri Bellamy in September.
“Yesterday, we gave out close to 100 ballots,” Casanoba said.
Early voters can cast their ballots in a booth in the county election office or request ballots that must be mailed back.
Early voting ballots must be returned to county election offices by the close of polls on Nov. 6..
Registered voters can request ballots until 4 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 31, for early ballots to be mailed. Nov. 5 is the deadline for in-person early voting at county election offices for registered voters.
