Students plan to paint the town pink

The Gothenburg High School cheerleaders, volleyball team, football team and Interact Club are planning to “Paint Gothenburg Pink” in October to support those suffering from cancer.

Several activities the week of Oct. 8-12 will be “pink outs,” including the volleyball match against Southwest on Oct. 11 and the football game with Ord on Oct. 12.

Fans are encouraged to wear pink and support the Swedes’ cause.

“Pink Power” shirts are being sold to raise money to donate to the Dawson County Relay for Life and Team Jack.

Jack Hoffman is a 6-year-old boy suffering from brain cancer.

He is a special friend of Husker football player Rex Burkhead and his family is raising funds to help research into pediatric brain cancer.

The T-shirts are $12 each and are available in both youth and adult sizes.

They can be purchased in either the elementary or high school offices.

If all shirts are sold, the students will have raised $1,800 toward the cause.

Donations will also be accepted at both “pink out” games.

The Gothenburg softball team is hosting a “Swing for a Cure” pink event as well.

Fans are encouraged to wear pink during the game with Cozad Thursday to help raise money for breast cancer research.
