Brady’s village board is considering reducing the number of hours for law enforcement services offered by the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department.

During their Aug. 15 meeting, trustees discussed the upcoming contract renewal with Lincoln County.

The village currently pays $15,400 for 50 hours of service per month with no control over times and days officers spend in Brady.

Trustees voted in early 2010 to end the interlocal agreement with Lincoln County for law enforcement but later reinstated the contract after plenty of resident discord.

“We don’t plan on dropping the contract all together,” said board chairman Jeff Miller. “We just think it would be in our best financial interest to reduce the cost and therefore reduce the number of hours.”

Miller said the village will discuss lowering the contract to 25 hours per month in hopes that the cost would be half as well.

The item will be on the trustees’ agenda again next month.
