Enhancing the downtown
Business owners pour $764,700 into improvements.
Some sport new awnings while others keep cold at bay with energy-efficient windows.
The Home Agency has both, thanks to matching funds from a state downtown revitalization grant.
Now that the last of the grant money has been spent, city officials say that $1,000,909 was invested by business owners and a community development block grant to improve their businesses.
“It got a lot of people thinking about and improving the facades of their buildings,” said Dan Tinlin, an insurance agent with The Home Agency. “I think it’s made a tremendous difference and enhanced the downtown area.”
Tinlin said his agency decided to apply for funds because of improvements he noticed made by other businesses.
“The rest of the town was sprucing up,” he said.
