FCCLA students qualify for state
Three projects presented by Brady members of Future Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) qualified for the state contest during the District 14 competition at Brady on Jan. 19.
FCCLA’s Students Taking Action with Recognition (STAR) program encourages active participation and emphasizes the positive accomplishments of FCCLA members.The District 14 STAR contest included students from Brady, Callaway, Cozad, Maxwell, Mullen and Thedford.
Only the projects judged best in each of many categories advance to state in April.
Brady senior Taina Taullie will make a return trip to the state STAR contest, this year in career investigation.
Taullie’s project centered around her desire to compose music. She shadowed a local composer, did research about the job and composed her own music which she performed at the school’s holiday music program last month.
A group of Brady girls who competed in the chapter service display category also qualified for state.
Kristen Boden, Valerie Most and Lexi Franzen put together a project centered on the dangers of texting while driving.
They organized a fund-raiser to help Erin Smith pay medical expenses after her vehicle accident caused by texting while driving.
The girls presented Smith with $497.23 on Friday.
Freshman Donnie Trisdale won the junior division of the district Teach and Train category.
Trisdale’s project gave him an inside view of a career in teaching elementary school.
He worked with fourth-grade teacher Jeanene Lusk to observe, practice and teach her class.
