Brady students, staff transition into new school year
Enrollment hits all-time high.
It’s still hot enough outside to feel like the middle of summer but the lazy days officially ended in Brady last week when students went back to class.
The doors opened on the 2010-11 school year on Wednesday with a new all-time high K-12 enrollment of 204.
Superintendent Bill Porter said it naturally took a couple of days for everyone, including teachers, to transition back into the school routine.
Now, a week later, everything is in full swing, including extra-curricular activities.
“It’s full speed ahead,” Porter said.
Some might think the higher enrollment number—the most students Brady has ever seen—would present problems such as locker space and adequate books.
Porter said he would rather look at it as an opportunity than a challenge.
Increasing enrollment, he said, means the district is doing something right.
The district topped 200 for the first time ever during the 2006-07 school year when 203 students reported to class on the first day of school.
Enrollment has remained relatively steady every year since then.
It’s a blessing for those who survived the bleak years of the late 1990s.
Brady’s enrollment began to decline at the beginning of the 1998-99 session when the K-12 number dropped from 160 students to 156.
