Local TeamMates chapter earns awards of distinction

Block, Dewey receive Outstanding Match Award.

The Gothenburg chapter of TeamMates received two awards of distinction during the state TeamMates annual partnership meeting last week in Lincoln.

Mentor Brent Block and his mentee Tyrell Dewey, a GHS 2010 graduate, were named Outstanding Match for the western region.

Together seven years, Block and Dewey were the longest match in the Gothenburg chapter’s nine-year history.

Also honored was Adrian Fiala for his work on the annual Husker Heritage golf tournament at Wild Horse Golf Club.

Fiala received the Dreamer Award for the $55,000 contribution his tournament has brought to TeamMates over the past nine years.

The Gothenburg TeamMates chapter will kick off its 10th year during the Gothenburg Public Schools open house on Aug. 16.

Thirty matches make up the program and coordinator Lindsey Tederman is always looking for adult volunteers to mentor students in fifth through 12th grades.

Anyone interested in becoming a mentor may fill out an application at www.teammates.org.
