Village approves new trash contract
SGS to take over waste collection.
Red containers with black lids will replace the green trash carts throughout Brady at the end of this year.
Village board members voted during their regular monthly meeting on June 9 to offer a solid waste collection contract to SGS Sanitation of North Platte beginning Jan. 1, 2011.
The village’s current two-year contract with Schaben Sanitation expires in December.
Village clerk Pam Diehl said the color of the cart should be the only noticeable difference residents see in their trash removal unless SGS officials decide on a different collection day.
Trustees accepted four bids for trash collection in May with the SGS proposal of $11.75 per month for residential service being the lowest.
Diehl said that is the cost per resident to the village. Trustees often set fees a little higher, she said, to cover additional village utility costs.
The village began considering a new trash removal contract when complaints surfaced last November about Schaben’s exclusive clause preventing construction contractors or anyone else in the village from using another company for roll-off service.
Diehl said SGS will have no exclusive language in its contract.
Board members also discussed the progress on the south-side park just south of the Union Pacific Railroad tracks east of South Market Street.
