Golfers finish second at SWC by one stroke
Best conference performance in years.
BROKEN BOW—Despite the season’s persistent wind, Gothenburg’s golfers had their best Southwest Conference performance in many years.
Coach Jim Henke said overall scores were not impressive thanks to the wind and difficult pin placement but the Swedes had a good day finishing runner-up in the SWC.
Valentine edged out Gothenburg by one stroke to take the team title.
The Badgers carded a 367 total ahead of the Swedes’ 368. Minden was just one stroke back at 369.
“The conference meet was very competitive,” Henke said.
There were only 10 strokes difference between the top and bottom teams after the first nine holes. In fact, Gothenburg senior Derek Franzen led all golfers with a score of 40 halfway through the meet.
“Derek fell off the pace on his second nine but Jackson (Graham) came back with a 38, the lowest nine-hole score of the day,” Henke said.
Graham’s 86 total placed him third with Franzen right behind in fourth at 86.
Alix Meisinger’s 97 and Jeramie VanAcker’s 99 rounded out the Swede scoring.
